Job Posting: Artstarts, a non-profit that does programming in the arts for youth in So. IL, is seeking a Director of Development whose core responsibilities will be to develop and maintain a donor base and program sponsors, to plan events, and promote Artstarts' work. Job Description - 8/20/15

Reports to Executive Board of Directors and is responsible for the general oversight and day to
day operation of fund raising activities, promotions, special events, and record keeping and
 support for active volunteers. Consistently supports the mission of Artstarts Company while
maintaining privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the company,
acting with ethics and integrity and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and
regulations, and Artstarts Company’s bylaws, code of conduct and policies and procedures.
This position has primary responsibility for securing sufficient funds to realize
Artstarts Company’s goals and mission.

Specific Duties:
Attends all functions of Artstarts
Attends Artstarts’ Executive Board Meetings

Marketing:
Drafts press releases, newsletters, and promotional materials
Communicates with public through television, radio, print media and social media
Makes personal calls on prospective donors
Calls on donors for commitments and increased commitments and involving donors in new ways
   including visits to Artstarts Company
Builds strong relationships with donors and prospects
Schedules regular presentations to service clubs, community groups, businesses
Maintains events and organizational calendar
Plans, schedules, attends and executes events in conjunction with key volunteers, board
   members, staff and others
Solicits in-kind goods and services as needed

Stewardship:
Responsible for maintaining donor records, sending thank you letters, and maintaining a donor
   database
Organizes events for donors in meaningful ways to say “thank you” and to expand the circle of
   donors

Grant Writing:
Maintains comprehensive schedule of grant opportunities, deadlines, follow-up activities and
   reporting requirements for grants received
Works collaboratively with Executive Board of Directors to prepare quality grant requests

Capital Campaigns and Planned Giving:
Guides Artstarts in the organization and execution of any major or minor capital campaigns
Communicates with outstanding pledge holders as they complete pledge obligations
Identifies planned gift prospects
Organizes communication and materials for solicitation
Organizes targeted solicitation

Planning:
Provides regular community feedback
Provides input to board meeting agendas
Participates in long range planning and annual budgeting
Completes all other assignments as required by the Artstarts Executive Board of Directors

Qualifications and Preferred Experience:

Experience: One to three years in a non-profit or related field
People Skills: Must have demonstrated great people skills. Demonstrated excellent relationship
   skills, collaboration, cooperation, conflict resolution, understanding others, positive attitude and
   friendly demeanor. Must have, or be willing to develop, strong positive relationships with local
   community leaders, donors, and friends of Artstarts.

Language Skills: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in
   English, including excellent listening skills. Demonstrated ability to synthesize a broad range of
   ideas into cogent communications. Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.

Administrative Skills: Extreme attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects
   simultaneously, excellent working knowledge of database software and management, strong
   math skills, ability to create written documents, letters, brochures, reports with little oversight.

Software Proficiency: Microsoft Word, Excel, Word Perfect. Must be technology oriented.

Marketing Skills: Must be familiar with and able to promote Artstarts Company by using
   multiple social media avenues.
