Code of Conduct for Our Directors and Staff
We strive every day to build character in our students, both on and off the stage and want to deliver the very best experience for our performers, parents, Board members and patrons.
· Strive to create a cheerful, positive and constructive learning environment for our students and our parents.
· Create and deliver an organized game plan for every practice that clearly communicates expected outcomes.
· Come to every class on-time and prepared to perform their duties.
· Establish rapport and effective working relationship with parents, students, staff members and other volunteers.
· Report to the appropriate authorities incidents of suspected child abuse or neglect, as required by law.
· Serve as appropriate role models for their students and conduct themselves with integrity and professional standards.
· Make decisions on casting, performer direction and other production issues objectively and without influence from parents, students, volunteers or Members of the Board of Directors.
· Conduct all direction in a supportive and age-appropriate manner.
· Oversee interactions to ensure that personal, verbal, non-verbal, physical or sexual harassment between child to child, child to adult, or adult to adult will not be tolerated.
· Resolve interpersonal disputes between students, parents or volunteers without becoming entangled in those disputes.
· Never discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, disability, or any other basis prohibited by law.
· Respect the Artstarts’ facilities.
· Do not use alcohol, illegal drugs or weapons while participating in Artstarts’ activities.
Note: Alcohol is allowed at Artstarts’ events where the Executive Board has authorized the use.
Expectations of Our Students & Performers
We strive every day to build character in our students, both on and off stage, and to deliver the very best experiences. We have the following expectations of them to make that possible:
· Show respect for others: Our students will respect the rights and feelings of the other participants. Fighting, bullying, name calling, intimidation, bigotry of any kind, inappropriate language or any other form of physical or emotional abuse or unwanted contact directed at one another, Directors, Staff, Volunteers and Board Members will not be tolerated. Participants will cooperate with the Director, Staff, Volunteers and Board Members. Participants will not make anyone feel their role in the production is not important.
· Maintain a Professional Focus: Our students are expected to pay attention to and follow the guidance of the Directors, Staff, Volunteers or Board Members. Disruptive, distracting or problematic behavior that affects the learning environment will not be tolerated.
· Respect our Facilities/Property: Participants will respect Artstarts facilities, costumes, props, sets and all other property of other participants. They will pick up after themselves and work to keep the building clean.
· Not Handle Dangerous Items: Our students are not allowed to use drugs, alcohol, tobacco, weapons while participating in Artstarts’ activities.
· Always Be on Time: Our participants will show up to rehearsals and shows on-time and ready to work.
· Not Leave Until Dismissed: Our participants will not leave during a show or rehearsal unless excused by the Director or when the Director dismisses the group. They will not leave the premises without their parent or guardian.
Expectations of Our Parents, Patrons and Volunteers
We strive every day to build character in our students, both on and off stage, and want to deliver the very best possible artistic experience for them. For that to be possible, we need the supports of our Parents, Patrons and Volunteers, and while they are at Artstarts’ functions, we ask they follow these rules of conduct.
· Ensure their child follows the Rule of Conduct adopted by Artstarts.
· Ensure their child attends scheduled program activities regularly and shows up on time with all necessary materials and is prepared to complete the expected activities.
· Ensure the off-stage conduct of their child is conducive to a proper learning environment.
· Willingly participates in Director discussions to review a child’s progress and welfare.
· Bring to the attention of the Director, Parent Volunteer, or Board Member learning conditions that may be detrimental to their child’s education and experience.
· Be supportive of activities, set-build requirements, show-support functions and other activities and willingly support and volunteer to assist as requested.
· Ensure their language to their own children and others is supportive, nurturing and age appropriate and of a positive nature. Swearing, yelling or humiliation are not acceptable disciplinary techniques.
· Avoid personal, verbal, non-verbal, physical or sexual harassment between child to child, child to adult or adult to adult.
· Follow directions and guidance of volunteers or others selected and empowered by the Director or Board of Directors to assist in specific responsibilities related to a given production or activity.
· Respect our Facilities/Property
· Not use alcohol, weapons, illegal drugs while participating in Artstarts’ activities. Note: Alcohol is allowed at Artstarts’ events where the Executive Board has authorized the use.
· Understand the Director is in charge of the production. The Director is accountable for the ultimate outcome, so he or she has to own the creative process including the casting, creative and artistic decisions. Parents may not influence or attempt to influence the Director or any casting Directors decisions.
· Understand the Director or Board of Director member may excuse any participant or parent from rehearsals and ultimately from the production.
· Promptly notify the Director or Artstarts’ Board of Director member of any behavior they believe is inappropriate.
