2016 Southern Illinois Student Art Competition
Theme: “The Absence or Presence of God in Graffiti”
Artstarts Company, a non-profit charitable organization, established to promote art and artists in Southern Illinois, announces an art competition. The theme of this year’s competition is “The Absence or Presence of God in Graffiti”, to compliment our production of Godspell which will be presented April 1-3, 2016. There is one age range: Current 6th Grade students to current Seniors in High school. One first place winner will be selected in each category: Absence or Presence. Entries will be displayed locally before the Godspell Production, and at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center during our presentation of Godspell. The winners will receive $100, 4 show tickets to Godspell, and an Artstarts t-shirt. Winners will be acknowledged during intermission at Friday night’s production of Godspell.
You are asked to create something that represents the theme “The Absence or Presence of God in Graffiti”. You may make the artwork three dimensional, but the artwork can be no larger than 12" inches in height, depth, or width. Your work must be original.
Eligible participants: Students who reside in one of the following southern counties in Illinois: Alexander, Franklin, Gallatin, Hardin, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Massac, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Saline, Union, Williamson. (Home school and private school students are eligible for the competition.)
Rules: All entries must be submitted either by personal delivery or by mail and must be received by Artstarts Company by March 2, 2016. If you desire to mail the entry, please mail the entry to Artstarts Company, P. O. Box 1005, Marion, IL 62959. If you desire to personally deliver your entry to Artstarts Company, please call 618-645-2787, or email [email protected] to make arrangements for personal delivery. Artists may use any type of medium to create the artwork. Judging will be based upon originality, use of materials, and creativity. Artwork will be judged by professional Artists not affiliated with Artstarts Company. By submitting an entry to the competition, the artist agrees that Artstarts Company may exhibit the artist’s work in an art exhibition, on Artstarts Company’s website and any other form of media, and that Artstarts Company may use the artwork in the company’s 2016 production of Godspell. A completed entry form must be submitted with each entry. Should the artist desire the return of his or her artwork, the artist should make arrangements to pick up the artwork from Artstarts Company after April 3, 2016 at Artstarts and before April 20, 2016, or the artist should provide Artstarts with a postage paid package to return the artwork to the artist. Any artwork not picked up before April 20, 2016 will be considered the property of Artstarts, Each contestant may enter one entry. Entry forms can be found below.

By submitting an entry to the competition, the artist agrees that Artstarts Company may exhibit the artist’s work in an art exhibition, on Artstarts Company’s website and that Artstarts Company may use the artwork in the company’s production of Godspell. All persons entering the contest also agree that any entry may be used by Artstarts Company in any and all media now known or hereafter developed for any purpose. Should the artist desire the return of his or her artwork, the artist should supply Artstarts Company with a self addressed stamped envelope for the return of the artwork, or the artist should personally pick up his or her artwork following the last showing of Godspell at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center on March 3, 2016. Any artwork not claimed by the artist by 6 p.m. on April 20, 2016, will become property of Artstarts Company. All persons entering this contest hereby release Artstarts Company from any liability for any damage that may result to any artwork submitted to this contest. All persons entering this contest also hereby acknowledge that no entry has been copied from any other source and that the entries submitted to this contest are the original creation of the person entering the contest.
