Theme: “ Create a Castle Cartoon Caricature ”

Artstarts Company, a non-profit charitable organization, established to promote art and artists in Southern Illinois, announces an art competition. The theme of this year’s competition is “Create a Castle Cartoon Caricature”, to compliment our production of Beauty and the Beast which will be presented March 27-30, 2014. There are three categories: ages 14-18, ages 9-13, and 8 and under. One first place winner and one second place winner from each category will be selected. Entries will be displayed at the Artstarts House, 104 S. Van Buren in Marion, and at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center during our presentation of Beauty and the Beast. First Place Winners will receive $100, 4 show tickets to Beauty and the Beast, and an Artstarts t-shirt. Second Place Winners will receive $50, 4 show tickets to Beauty and the Beast and an Artstarts t-shirt. Winners will be acknowledged during intermission at Thursday night’s production, March 27th, of Beauty and the Beast.
You are asked to create something that represents the theme “Create a Castle Cartoon Caricature”. You may make the artwork three dimensional, but the artwork can be no larger than 12" inches in height, depth, or width. Your work must be original. Create a Cartoon Caricature of a Character that you would like to see in Beauty and the Beast’s castle.
Eligible participants: Students who reside in one of the following southern counties in Illinois: Alexander, Franklin, Gallatin, Hardin, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Massac, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Saline, Union, Williamson. (Home school and private school students are eligible for the competition.)
Rules: All entries must be submitted either by personal delivery or by mail and must be received by Artstarts Company by March 15, 2014. If you desire to mail the entry, please mail the entry to Artstarts Company, P. O. Box 1005, Marion, IL 62959. If you desire to personally deliver your entry to Artstarts Company, please call Liz Elliott, Director of Operations, at 618-645-2787 or email her at [email protected] to make arrangements for personal delivery. Artists may use any type of medium to create the artwork. Judging will be based upon originality, use of materials, and creativity. By submitting an entry to the competition, the artist agrees that Artstarts Company may exhibit the artist’s work in an art exhibition, on Artstarts Company’s website and any other form of media, and that Artstarts Company may use the artwork in the company’s production of Beauty and the Beast. A completed entry form must be submitted with each entry. Should the artist desire the return of his or her artwork, the artist should make arrangements to pick up the artwork from Artstarts Company after March 30, 2014 at Artstarts and before May 1, 2014, or the artist should provide Artstarts with a postage paid package to return the mask to the artist.
